Billy Joel
William Martin Joel ( JOHL; born May 9, 1949) is an American singer, songwriter, and pianist. Nicknamed the Piano Man, after his 1973 signature song of the same name, he has had a successful career as a solo artist since the 1970s.

Early life
Joel was born on May 9, 1949, in the Bronx, New York City. At age one, he moved with his family to Hicksville in the town of Oyster Bay on Long Island. The family included Joel's adopted sister, Judy, who is his maternal cousin. His mother, Rosalind Nyman, was born in Brooklyn to English parents, Philip and Rebecca, who were Jewish.

The book was originally going to be released in June 2011, but, in March 2011, Joel decided against publishing the book and officially canceled his deal with HarperCollins. Rolling Stone noted, "HarperCollins acquired the book project for US$3 million in 2008.
